In attesa delle prime immagini ufficiali dello spin-off Hobbs and Shaw (che arriveranno in occasione del prossimo SuperBowl), Dwayne Johnson ha confermato in una recente intervista con MTV News che il suo personggio non apparirà il Fast and Furious 9, specificando che potrebbe comunque fare ritorno nel decimo capitolo. Queste le sue parole:
“L’idea è sempre stata quella di espandere l’universo di Fast and Furious. Al momento, non sarà nel nono episodio perché le riprese partiranno molto. Ma chissà, magari tornerò nel decimo o in futuro… mai dire mai! Alla fine ci sono alcuni conti in sospeso fra Hobbs e Dom. La storia non è ancora finita.”

Nel frattempo, il produttore Hiram Garcia ha confermato con un post condiviso su Twitter che le riprese di Hobbs and Shaw, che arriverà nelle sale american il prossimo 2 agosto, sono ufficialmente terminate:

Dwayne Johnson conferma che non apparirà in Fast and Furious 9
Justin Lin tornerà alla regista di Fast and Furious 9: molto probabilmente, il nono capitolo sarà ambientato in Africa. Il film arriverà al cinema il 10 aprile 2020. Sarà Daniel Casey a scrivere la sceneggiatura del film, andando così a sostituire lo “storico” Chris Morgan, al quale è stata invece affidata la stesura dello script dello spin-off.
